Pick boots by the surface you play on
Football boots are the biggest group in this range, and the letters in each name tell you where a boot works. MG boots have plastic plates with moulded studs for real grass and artificial grass pitches. Nike's Jr. Mercurial Vapor 16 Club MG is one. TF boots are for turf, and Nike says the Phantom 6 High Club TF is for shorter, synthetic surfaces. IC boots have a rubber outsole for street, court and indoor surfaces.
adidas also makes FG/MG boots, such as the kids' Predator Club, and the Deportivo III comes in a Flexible Ground version designed for a variety of surfaces. Browse every pair in football shoes.
Club boots and the boot families
Most boots here are Club versions. Nike says Club boots are for players who are starting out or playing for fun, without compromising on quality. The families you will see most are adidas F50, Predator and Copa Pure, and Nike Mercurial, Phantom and Tiempo Legend, with Puma Ultra boots too.
Each family has its own touch. Nike says the synthetic leather on the Tiempo Legend 10 moulds to your foot for better control. adidas gives the Copa Pure IV Club 3D printed texture for grip on the ball, and the kids' Predator Club uses Powerspine technology for control.
Kit for kids
A large part of this range is for kids. Kids' boots run from size 24 to 38 2/3, and men's boots from 38 1/2 to 48 2/3. Kids' clothing is sized by age, from 1-2 years up to 16-17 years. More for young players is in kids' football.
If you are buying your first pair of boots, start with a Club boot made for the surface you play on most. For indoor courts, pick an IC pair.
