Pick by activity: running, gym or all day
Start with what you will do in the shoes. For running, Nike made the Revolution 8 for beginners and everyday runners, and the Downshifter 14 for easy road miles. adidas made the Runfalcon 5 TR for park trails and uneven ground, with a water-repellent upper. You will find more pairs in women's running shoes.
For the gym, Nike says the MC Trainer 3 has a sturdy, flat base that keeps you steady during every rep. See more in women's training shoes. For long days on your feet, On made the Cloudnova Form 2 TT for all-day comfort and travel, with a wide base and a roomy toe box.
EU sizes: each brand counts them differently
The size list on each pair can look different, because brands step their EU sizes in different ways. adidas goes up in thirds, like 38, 38 2/3 and 39 1/3. Nike, Skechers, On and Anta go up in halves, like 38 and 38 1/2. Birkenstock uses whole sizes only, from 35 up. Crocs and some Ipanema flip-flops come in double sizes, like 37-38.
So if you know your number in one brand, read the size list on each pair before you pick. Do not assume the same number exists in every brand.
Slides and sandals for easy days
For days off, slides are the quick choice. Birkenstock builds the Arizona around its contoured cork-latex footbed, and the Arizona EVA is moulded from a single piece of light EVA. adidas calls its Adilette Aqua a quick-drying slide, with plush cushioning for in and out of the shower. Browse them in women's flip-flops and slides.
If you want one pair for most days, start with a walking shoe like the Skechers GO WALK Joy. If you run, pick the Nike Revolution 8.
